May 1st Update:
Well for the past two weeks I've continued to polish up
nuts, bolts, washers and screws along with alll the other small parts
there are on these babies. I still have all the window and door mechanisms
left to clean up and msc fastening parts.
I fixed all the control cables. Where the plastic jacket was cracked
or missing I buffed up the steel inside and cleaned it with
lacquer thinner and painted 10 coats of "plasti-dip" over
those areas so they are completely sealed once again from moisture
They lay in the bottom of the hull so if the jacked is cracked,
water (assuming where may be some splash water in there cause
TRFNSRF WILL NOT leak) gets at the cable and will cause it to rust
inside and become inoperable.
I put new rubber seals on the radiator shrouds. I used real rubber
and not the "garage door bottom" that some people use.
Rubber does not succumb to heat and become "lazy" and lay down
like the plastic "garage door bottom" will.
If anyone is interested, I have enough rubber left for approximately
ten more Amphi's. Let me know.
I spent many hours straightening all the aluminum trim. Where there
were deep nicks or gouges, I welded in new aluminum and then filed
it smooth. Then I sanded all of the old clear coat off all of the pieces
buffed them back to a brilliant shine and clear coated them again.
They all look like new!
The steering wheel had a number of typical cracks in it.
I used a Dremel tool to grind them out wide and deep enough to get
epoxy filler in them. Next I'll have to sand them smooth and
repaint the wheel it's original color. The epoxy is in the cracks
in the pictures below. It's clear epoxy.
When I restore cars, I can't put a screw back on even inside a door
where no one will ever see it again, without first polishing it on the
wire wheel and clear coating it to prevent rust.
I had the outside door handles re-plated and they look like
they should be in a picture frame, not on a car!
The wheels and tires are mounted, balanced and ready to roll.
Hell, even the lug nuts will be polished!
There are A LOT of parts on Amphicars for such a small car.
