June 14, 2004 update:
I'm a little behind in the update department
so I'll try to catch up here.
Below is a picture of amphi after the wet sanding is done
and another with the masking tape on all the edges in
preparation for machine buffing and polishing.
The rest of the assembly went pretty quickly after the buffing was done.
I had purchased a muffler and tailpipe from Gordons,
but it was pretty rinky-dink. It came with 3 or 4 pages
of instructions on how to make it work which included
cutting off the original muffler braces that attatch to the engine.
I hadt to destroy original parts that I'd likely have to pay a fortune to replace,
so I my old rotted out muffler to a local muffler shop and the guy
made me a muffler to fit perfectly for $35.00!!!
There was some discussion on the yahoo amphi email group
a while back when I mention that I got my new windshield
from "www.classicautoglass.com" for $299.00. I've purchased a
few windshields from them for previous Tbird restorations and have
always had good luck with the companies service, and the fit of the glass.
It took longer to put the rubber windshield gasket on the glass than it took to
put the glass in the car. I drove it to a car show about 50 miles from
home last Saturday in the rain, and there wasn't a leak anywhere.
The windshield is made in England as you can see on the sticker.
I also used the "surplus" front shocks from www.surpluscenter.com
that are listed on the parts substitution page at www.amphicar.com
and they work fine too.
I got TRFNSRF essentially complete except for the interior and took
her out for her 1st swim on Sunday May 30th. The only place I could see
any water coming in at all was around the parking brake cables
so when I got home I addressed that and now there are none.
